Spiced Rum Mulled Wine

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup spiced rum
  • ½ bottle (375 ml) red wine
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • Zest of ½ orange
  • ½ orange, sliced
  • 2 tbsp sugar or honey (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 star anise
  • 3 - 4 cardamom pods, lightly crushed
  • Small knob of fresh ginger, sliced
  • Cinnamon stick for garnish
  • Orange slice for garnish

Directions:

Yields: 3-4 cocktails

Combine all ingredients except for the rum in a small pot. Heat gently over low heat and simmer on low for 20-30 mins (do not boil). During the last 5 minutes of simmering, stir in the spiced rum. Taste and adjust sweetness. Serve hot in a heatproof mug with a cinnamon stick and orange slice as garnish.
