In a beaker, place 4-5 ice cubes and then add the bourbon, vermouth, maple syrup, bitters and salt. Using a bar spoon, stir until chilled (about 20 seconds). Strain contents into martini glass. Cover with a cloche, and smoke with smoking gun.
For an alternative home use, you can place the martini glass on a baking tray, place a few pieces of wood chips next to the glass and using a stick lighter ignite until if lights on fire. Cover with a large pot. By covering, the fire will lose oxygen and burn out. The residual smoke will flavor the cocktail. Leave cocktail covered for 2 minutes.
