The inspiration for GinQuila’s fresh fusion of gin and tequila flavors comes from a Mexican homespun cocktail called the cantarito. Similar to the paloma, the cantarito is made in large pots and served in clay vessels. It consists of tequila and grapefruit soda blended with orange, lemon and lime peels. With this as a base, we infused other vibrant Latin and South American flavors including fresh papaya, cinnamon, thyme, chipotle and arbol pepper into the spirit, then cold vacuum distilled it at 60 degrees. We then rested the spirit after proofing down to 150 Proof in former tequila barrels. In order to pick up more tequila and oak barrel flavor and color faster, we built a shaker deck to rock the barrels back and forth as if they were sailing around the Caribbean on a boat.
The resulting GinQuila is extremely versatile, lending a delicious and inspiring twist to any traditional gin or tequila cocktail, and providing a canvas for entirely new cocktails altogether! The vacuum distillation treatment makes this spirit exceptionally smooth and bursting with complex citrus, spice and tequila flavor.
